Title : German Destroyer Erich Giese – The last Eagle (Battle off Narvik)

This wreck was the main target off an amazing and unforgettable expedition, which took place in July 2009, since it’s the best, the deepest and unexplored shipwreck of all the battle. The wreck sits upright at 70 meters deep, totally unharmed, considered a war grave it’s protected by the authorities, with prohibited entrance except with a special authorization. It took the in silence team two years and were only granted with 2 days.
Erich Giese was sunk in the famous counterattack of the English forces in the second battle of Narvik in 13 of April 1940.

Fantastic and unique images from a shipwreck who is without a doubt an authentic museum, it was a unforgettable dive that stays with you for the rest of your lives.

…….”In groups we jumped into the water, ice cold with just 5 centigrade.
As we went down the light faded away until, from between the darkness, our ship appeared. To explore it we would have to swim about 70 meters of its 125, and our plan was to go by it until we got to the command bridge.
Munitions, machine guns, innumerable objects, everything is totally intact, it’s a visit to the past, we feel a different energy and an intense silence as if we were in a sacred tomb.
We moved down to the bottom, trying to search for anything that may appear from beneath the wrecks, suddenly, like some sort of miracle, a wondrous artifact came into our sight, a Nazi eagle, totally unharmed, during a few moments it was as our hearts almost stopped, it’s an unique and historic moment in the life of any diver”……
