In 2007 Northern UK deep wreck diver Ric Waring put together an expedition to dive survey and video the RMS Carpathia. Sunk in 155m / 500ft of water approx 185 miles from south West of lands end, England, the Carpathia became a famous ship when she rescued the survivors of the Titanic disaster. Captain Rostron responded to the Titanics distress signal and became the first vessel to reach the famous ‘So called ‘unsinkable’ leviathan of the white star line in April 1912.

Carpathia was part of a convoy when she was torpedoed on 17 July 1918 off the east coast of Ireland by the German submarine U-55. Sinking in the Atlantic Ocean she rested on a seabed ledge to the edge of the continental shelf in a depth range which by the new millennium was reachable by Technical divers. Mounting an expedition to dive such a wreck was logistical and challenging
and diver Jeff Cornish worked alongside Ric Waring planning a complex dive operation in a remote part of the Atlantic Ocean. Dubbed as one of the milestone deep wreck projects of recent times the location of the wreck itself and the depth and bottom times the divers pulled made the project perhaps the pinnacle of deep wreck dive projects.

This was a successful expedition not without its mishaps and challenges. This is warts and all presentation in which Ric Waring and Jeff Cornish will explain exactly what happened from the planning stages to executions of the wreck dives. The divers will also explain how they became involved in the recovery of artifacts in association with Titanic Inc (who were also on site) the company that exhibits Titanic artifacts on a world wide travelling museum.
