Bill Smith
Bill Smith is a wreck location expert who's passion for finding
shipwrecks has taken him around the world and earned him a reputation
as someone who can get the job done. An Englishman from North
Shields in the North East of the United Kingdom Bills list of
finds have put him in the history books as well as having them
re-written. Bill is a man who in recent years has turned his
hand to specific projects, a technical rebreather diver himself
although |
|
| admits that these days he's more at home locating the wrecks
on the surface. At EuroTek Bill will run a workshop on wreck
location techniques and inform attending delegates with some
of the knowledge he has gained over the years. Bill became a

expert in wreck / wreckage location when he discovered
Donald Campbell water speed boat BlueBird in Coniston lake in
the Lake District. Bill had began his search in 1996 and the
raising of the wreckage was a subject of a BBC documentary.
Bills Bluebird project continues and he is restoring the original
boat which will finally run again on Coniston Lake. During Carl
Spencer's 2003 Britannic project Bill and his team of sonar
experts Alain Douglas & Graeme Connacher located the mine
field that the Germans always claimed sunk the great Titanic
sister ship. |
| Bill has also discovered many UK wrecks and will
continue to work on several projects once he has finished his
Bluebird project. He has appeared on BBC radio as well as BBC
television, National Geographic. |

for the X5 the missing British Submarine lost in the Arctic
circle. During several trips he has accumulated over 50 miles
of data in an effort to locate the missing submarine. As well
as running his own location equipment for this project he also
worked aboard Royal Navy Hunt class Destroyers searching each
fjord, a project that continues each year.
Bill will be on hand at EuroTek to talk to divers who |
| wish to learn more about wreck location and specifically help
those who are working on current projects. |
