As with all of the prestigious
EuroTek Tek diving awards; the Award for Publication of the
2008 Conference had been voted for by the delegates of Eurotek.
In recent times we have seen
numerous books written on technical diving how to do it,
where to do it and what to use. There are other books
such as Shadow divers that tell the story of great friendship
and discovery.
There have also been several magazine publications over
the years that have come and gone that catered for the
more advanced diver. Although a very small community in
reality and especially in the early days of technical
diving it is only the dedicated editors that have a real
passion for producing material for others to enjoy that
survive.

Normally the turning point of survival of a magazine historically
is around 5 years.
This award goes to someone who has dedicated his life over the
past 5 years to producing a magazine that can only be described
as the National Geographic of Wreck Diving. Let’s hope
that Joe Porter worthy winner of this award can produce another
five years and then another five years so we can all see our
collection grow.
Joe Porter
Joe Porter started diving in the late 70’s. Like many
divers of the time, he was inspired by the legendary Jacques
Cousteau. To Joe, scuba diving was always more than just a hobby;
it was a way of life. He had a passion for the history of the
sea and a desire to explore the unknown.
In 2003, Joe went on a dive trip with Shark Diver Magazine.
After seeing the magazine in action, he knew that this was
something he wanted to be a part of. Immediately afterwards,
Joe took on the task of researching and contacting great writers
and photographers that were prepared to take a leap of faith
into a one-of-a-kind magazine with a one-of-a-kind man.
Joe has been fortunate enough be on expeditions with Richie
Kohler and John Chatterton. Though virtually unknown in the
diving world at the time, it was Joe’s passion for diving
and unmatchable charisma that led many to follow him into
Wreck Diving Magazine.
After five and a half years of non stop work and sleepless
nights, Joe has just as much passion for Wreck Diving Magazine
as he did from day one. Joe was looking forward to meeting
and talking with people at EuroTek, People that are out there
and ready to uncover the past! Joe & Wreck Diving Magazine
will be back at EuroTek in the future.
